Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho could be tempted to join Paris Saint-Germain next summer, should Manchester United fail to back him during the winter transfer window, The Sun reports.
The 54-year-old has spent nearly £300m on seven recruits since his appointment in 2016, but he is still keen bolstering his squad further in order to compete with arch-rivals Manchester City.
According to The Sun, Mourinho’s representative Jorge Mendes has already made contact with Les Parisiens’ hierarchy, and the United board are fearful that the manager will offer a resignation – come the end of the season.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City currently hold an eight-point advantage over United after 11 games, and Mourinho does not feel the club can catch their cross-town rivals anytime soon unless further signings are made.
The gaffer presently has more than 18 months left on his United deal and such speculation makes for little reading with the manager having recently dismissed the Paris Saint-Germain link.
Nevertheless, the Portuguese has tended to work in short spells at each of his former clubs, and the club’s officials should be worried, with Paris Saint-Germain spending megabucks on world-class recruits.
Mourinho’s men have won just one of their last four Premier League outings, but they could put things right following the international break when they host Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
