Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly reluctant to pursue a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal in the summer. The Chile international has been regularly linked with a Premier League switch with his Bavarian contact expiring at the end of next season.

According to The Manchester Evening News, Vidal is one of the player on United’s shortlist for the summer, but the manager is said to have one big worry over the Chilean. That’s however not related to his fiery personality but rather his age.

Vidal will have turned 31 before the start of 2018/18 campaign, and Mourinho does not want an ageing midfield with Nemanja Matic also set to celebrate his 30th birthday during the summer.

As a result, the club are looking into youngster recruits to strengthen the centre of the park with Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred among the targeted names, though the latter is leaning towards a move to Manchester City.

Despite the prowess of Scott McTominay and on-loan Andreas Pereira, Mourinho is very much certain to bring in a quality central midfielder with Michael Carrick due to call time on his career whilst Marouane Fellaini appears set to leave on a Bosman in the summer.
