Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho has refused to confirm whether Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez will make their comebacks ahead of this month’s FA Cup final against Chelsea.
Lukaku, 24, picked up an ankle problem during the 2-1 league triumph over Arsenal earlier this month and the Belgian has since travelled to his homeland in order to find a quick solution to his problem.
Alexis, on the other hand, was excluded out of the matchday squad for the Brighton defeat on Friday night and the Portuguese manager has yet to reveal the type of injury concern.
However, speaking after United’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton, Mourinho could not confirm the pair’s involvement in the Cup final and he could only hope for their participation in the Wembley showpiece. “I hope they can play in the final,” he said. “We have two matches and need four points.”
Lukaku has shown exceptional levels of fitness over the course of the campaign and there are suggestions that Mourinho could play the marksman against his former club, even if he is not 100 per cent fit for the final.
Sanchez’s injury, however, comes as a surprise and the fans will be hopeful that he can return in time to inflict another Wembley final defeat on Antonio Conte’s side. The Chilean spearheaded United’s FA Cup triumph over Tottenham with a crucial headed equaliser.
