Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is not sure whether Paul Pogba will be deemed fit for the Sevilla game despite participating in the latter part of the training session.
The Frenchman missed the weekend’s 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Premier League after he sustained a gash to his leg on the eve of the encounter.
Pogba was thereafter absent for the open training session at Carrington earlier on Monday, but this had spread suggestions that he could miss the Sevilla game altogether.
However, speaking to reporters, Mourinho confirmed that the Frenchman linked up in training during the final stages, but remains a doubt to make the matchday squad.
“He did [train] after you left. I don’t know. We don’t know yet, but he trained a little bit after you left.” he is quoted as saying by the club’s official website.
The gash is unlikely to keep Pogba sidelined for an extended period of time, but Mourinho will not want to risk the Frenchman unless he is fully fit. Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic produced a solid performance in a two-man midfield against Liverpool, but the emphasis was more on the opposition to attack.
Meanwhile, Marouane Fellaini has also made a timely return to the first-team squad, and he could potentially add more resolve at the heart of the midfield, should United want to preserve a slender lead against Sevilla on Tuesday night.
United played out a goalless draw against the Andalusian outfit on the road, and they now have to come up with the goods at Old Trafford, whilst restricting the opposition from grabbing an away goal, which often proves costly in the European competitions.
