Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has provided an injury update on trio Ashley Young, Marcus Rojo and Luke Shaw ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City.
Both Young and Shaw played for the United Under 23s against Swansea City at the Leigh Sports Village on Monday night, whilst Marcus Rashford recently returned to training following a long layoff with a cruciate knee injury.
Speaking to MUTV on Friday, Mourinho confirmed that Young is ahead of Shaw in terms of fitness, although both featured for 59 minutes in the Premier League 2 outing versus the Swans. The Portuguese also hinted that the pair could return to first-team action next month amid the hectic schedule involving League Cup and Champions League duties, he said: “Young will be earlier than Luke. There are seven matches to play in September in three different competitions, sometimes just two days between matches, so we need our squad. We need everyone.”
Rojo return to training was quite a surprise earlier this week, but Mourinho has insisted that the Argentine won’t be rushed to competitive football until December at the least. He added on Rojo: “Again, there is no rush. When I see him run, I like it. It doesn’t look like somebody with an injury. There is no limping, there are no details of injury, but that is just body language, that is just straight running. Football is different, we have to respect the timings and the timings are bringing Marcos to the team around December, not before.”
Manchester United are currently in a rich vein of form following convincing 4-0 victories over West Ham United and Swansea City in the Premier League, and they could maintain this run against Leicester City in Saturday’s late kick-off.
