Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has hinted that the club may not complete another signing before this month’s transfer deadline. The Red Devils have spent over £140m on the likes of Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic this summer, and it appears that their transfer business is all but done.
Speaking ahead of United’s league outing at Swansea City, Mourinho insisted that he is cool over the situation, and there is no pressure from his side to push for the fourth summer signing, he said:
“I don’t think we are, unless something happened that put us in the market again. I told Mr Woodward that obviously my plans were four, but I also told him ‘be cool, no pressure from me, do what you think is best for the club’.”
“We will be together again for another transfer window in January and another next summer, so there is no pressure from me at all. I’m happy with the squad we have and I’m ready to go without the fourth player. If we are out of the market, I’m fine. I’m ready.”
Manchester United made an excellent start to the campaign with a 4-0 victory over West Ham United at home, but Mourinho has insisted that his stability and discipline will remain the same as they are still not favourites for the Premier League title.
Lukaku made an impressive start to his Premier League career with United with a brace on debut while Matic also produced a man of the match performance as he proved a commanding midfield presence versus the Hammers.
Swansea City have been significantly weakened by the departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson in the transfer window, and Saturday’s early kick-off would provide the perfect opportunity to extend the points tally in the early stages of the campaign.
