Jose Mourinho ready to sell 22-year-old for only £20million: reports

Manchester United are prepared to cut their losses on Luke Shaw by offloading him during the January transfer window. The England international has struggled to become a regular under Jose Mourinho this term, with just two substitute appearances in the League Cup.

According to The Mail, the Red Devils are ready to listen to offers of around £20m for Shaw, thus taking a £11.5m loss on what they paid to Southampton more than three years ago.

Newcastle United are presently the leading candidates to pursue the 22-year-old, and it is suggested that they would fancy taking the Englishman on loan in January with the obligation for a permanent switch next summer.

Shaw is currently contracted at Old Trafford until the summer of 2018, but United are pretty much certain to trigger the one-year extension clause in his contract, which would allow them some leeway to cash in on his services.

The left-back is currently nowhere close to making a comeback to the England national side, but a fresh challenge elsewhere offers him an opportunity to pursue regular first-team football to at least knock on the team door prior to next summer’s World Cup in Russia.
