According to Calciomercato, Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian is nearing a move to Juventus, with manager Jose Mourinho ‘ready to release’ the Italian international as he’s no longer commanding a starting place.
Darmian is valued at around £9m, more than £3m less than what they paid for him in 2015. The 28-year-old has gone on to make more than 80 appearances in all competitions for United but has found game time hard to come by this season.
He’s made only two Premier League starts this season, racking up the majority of his playing time in the Champions League group stage, FA Cup and EFL Cup. Darmian has less than 18 months left on his deal so he’ll be weighing up his options as it looks highly unlikely he’d sign an extension at Old Trafford.
Calciomercato say an agreement is close between Juventus and Manchester United for Darmian’s signature. He never managed to dethrone Antonio Valencia at right-back or Ashley Young at left-back and Mourinho is reportedly happy to let him go.
Darmian is happy to make the switch to Turin, having been courted heavily by the Old Lady this season. The Serie A giants did have Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin on their radar to solve their problems at right-back, but the £60k-per-week man will be a much cheaper and more attainable alternative.
