Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez had indeed missed the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion after sustaining an injury in the lead-up to the encounter.
The Chilean had trained extensively alongside his teammates for the South Coast trip but he was not included in the travelling party which boarded the flight for the weekend meeting.
In his absence, Anthony Martial got a rare opportunity to impress from the starting lineup but the Frenchman could not make a key impact as United succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at the Falmer Stadium.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho confirmed Sanchez had suffered a minor knock in training but he should be up and running in a week or two, he said: “I don’t know, but let’s wait for the result. I would say he would be out for one week, two weeks, max.”
Sanchez was one of United’s top performers during the pre-season tour of the United States and the supporters have since tipped him for a big year after struggling to adjust following his January move from Arsenal.
As such, Mourinho would want the Chile international back into action at the earliest possibility and hopefully, he can make a swift recovery for the Monday night game against Tottenham, where United need to win to avoid dropping further behind their title challengers.
