Jose Mourinho believes 26-year-old left back would solve his defensive problems

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on luring Alex Sandro to Old Trafford during the upcoming transfer window. The Portuguese tactician has highlighted the need for a new left-back this winter despite the impressive showing of Ashley Young this term.

According to The Record, the 54-year-old wants to bring in Sandro as part of an £80m spending spree next month as he feels the Brazilian could significantly bolster the left side of the pitch in both attack and defence.

It is added that the Brazil international has already made his intention clear to join a Premier League club in the New Year, although the Serie A champions are reluctant to offload his services unless they receive a ‘really crazy offer’.

Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw have been sparingly used on the left side of the backline this term, and The Record suggests that the pair could be cashed in next month in order to enhance the arrival of new recruits at Old Trafford.

Darmian has managed just two top-flight starts during the 2017/18 campaign, whilst Luke Shaw has yet to make his bow in this season’s Premier League with his sole start coming in the 2-1 Champions League triumph over CSKA Moscow in midweek.
