Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to pursue the services of Mesut Ozil and Danny Rose from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur respectively. The Red Devils have endured a tough run since the last international break, and the Portuguese tactician is now eyeing potential recruits in January in order to improve the club’s showing in the second half of the campaign.
According to The Manchester Evening News, Mourinho has urged executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to push through a couple of winter deals which would reduce the workload during the next summer transfer window. Out of United’s targets, Ozil and Rose appear to be topping the shortlist with the former having only six months remaining in his contract.
The Germany international has a close association with Mourinho since his Real Madrid days, and United could make a tempting offer which persuade the Gunners to sell in January rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the campaign. According to Mirror, Gunners would demand 30 million pounds if Ozil is sold in the winter window
Meanwhile, Rose remains the prime option to reinforce the left side of the defence, where United have largely been dependent on veteran ace Ashley Young. The Englishman has been impressive whenever he has featured in the makeshift position, but Mourinho is looking into the future with Luke Shaw struggling to find form.
Rose is currently valued in excess of £50m, and there has been the talk of Shaw being offered to Tottenham Hotspur as part of a player-plus-cash deal. Should a deal go through, the left-back would be ineligible to feature in this season’s Champions League after taking part for Spurs in the group stage.
