Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with Old Trafford return this summer after allegations in Spain that he avoided paying £12.9 million in tax.
Real Madrid superstar is due to appear in court this month, and although the speculations on a potential return to Manchester United emerged, Jose Mourinho dismissed the idea as ‘mission impossible.’
“I’m not going to waste my time thinking about players who are mission impossible,” said Mourinho. “We have never thought about it because he is such an important player for his club, of great economic power. We have not been able to find for whatever reason that could have made us think Ronaldo could leave,” the Portuguese explained.
Even though Mourinho coached Ronaldo for three years at Santiago Bernabeu and they share the same agent, Jorge Mendes, it seems that the transfer will not happen after all. However, the “Special One” is determined to bring at least two new faces to Old Trafford this summer, but he also said that Alvaro Morata is not one of them.
“It is a question for Florentino,” added Mourinho. “He belongs to Madrid. Madrid has decided and we have not come to an agreement. It is simple. It is a shame. It is a player who made it to the first team with me. We have a special liking for, he is someone special. I enjoyed watching his evolution in Juventus and Madrid. But I don’t think he can end with us,” the gaffer concluded.
There is still enough time until the end of transfer window and it’s evident that Mourinho will continue to strengthen his squad before the Premier League starts on August 11.
