According to reports from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is looking to revert Victor Lindelof into a midfielder.
Victor Lindelof arrived at Manchester United from Benfica over the summer for a sizeable fee of around £30million and with a reputation as one of the finest young defenders in Europe.
However, Lindelof has done nothing to prove his worth at Old Trafford so far and following poor performances against the likes of Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United, the Swedish international’s ability has been put into serious question.
Manager Jose Mourinho seems to be well aware of Lindelof’s struggles and now according to reports from the Manchester Evening News, the Portuguese boss is looking to help the defender by deploying him at the middle of the park.
Mourinho had said about Lindelof back in September, “Victor, out of all our defenders, is probably the one with more quality when he attacks the space in midfield, so yes he is going to play midfield, he is going to play in the Premier League.”
Now that Mourinho has the likes of Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Axel Tuanzebe and Matteo Darmian, who are all capable of playing in central defence available for selection, he is looking to use Lindelof in midfield to help him gain confidence as well as address a problem position.
