Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on luring Germany international Toni Kroos from Real Madrid at the end of the current campaign.
The World Cup winner was the subject of interest from United during David Moyes’ reign, but the failure to negotiate a move witnessed Kroos join Los Blancos 12 months later.
Kroos has since won two Champions League crowns and one La Liga title with the Capital outfit, but Don Balon suggests that Mourinho could tempt Kroos to switch to the Premier League.
United are expected to recruit at least one midfielder to overcome the absence of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini in the ranks, but the £325,000-per-week star appears an improbable target at the moment.
The German has settled in well with the European champions, barring his opening campaign, and any exit may be dependent on Los Blancos parting ways with Zinedine Zidane during the summer.
Should this be the case, Los Blancos would still command a club-record package from United for the German, and this may put off Mourinho, given the Portuguese is supposedly keen on bolstering the defence as well.
A two-man midfield has been Mourinho’s preferred choice with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba slotting into the positions, and this typically makes for no room for Kroos unless a 4-3-3 formation is deployed.
Toni kroos is a good move if united can get his service
