Jose Mourinho wants £70m defender to replace Luke Shaw at Manchester United

Alex Sandro Juventus

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants Juventus defender Alex Sandro to replace Luke Shaw this summer, after cooling interest in Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Celtic’s Kieran Tieney. The Sun say the Brazilian international will cost £70m.

Shaw is expected to leave United at the end of the season, having struggled for playing time and falling out with Mourinho. The 22-year-old, who joined from Southampton in 2014, has made just seven Premier League starts for the Red Devils in 2017/18 and has lost his place to 32-year-old winger Ashley Young at left-back.

United will need a natural fullback for a title tilt next season, however, which is why they’re so keen to sign Sandro. The 27-year-old joined Juve from FC Porto in 2015 and has gone on to make over 100 appearances in all competitions. Sandro has been a regular this season, contributing 10 goals in 36 appearances, and has attracted interest from Chelsea as a result of his form.

It’s unknown if the Manchester giants are willing to meet his £70m asking price but given Mourinho has his sights set on procuring the Brazilian international’s signature this summer, the club may be forced to spend big.
