Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly planning a defensive overhaul of his first-team squad during the summer transfer window. The likes of Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Daley Blind could be shown the exit door with the Portuguese keen on recruiting ‘an entire new defensive line‘ ahead of next season.
According to The Times, Mourinho is looking to add a couple of experienced individuals in the defensive department, who can help the side adopt an aggressive approach against stronger opposition. It is added that the manager already has two targets on his shortlist in the form of Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti and Juventus’ Alex Sandro.
United are already said to have made initial contact with Umtiti regarding a summer move. The French centre-back is currently in a contract standoff with Barcelona, and United are supposedly prepared to trigger his £52m release clause, whilst tripling his wages to £150,000-a-week.
The £70million-rated star, on the other hand, had been on United’s radar during last summer’s transfer window, but Juventus were reluctant to do business for the left-sided defender. However, the Old Lady’s may change their stance this time around with the Brazilian yet to commit to a new contract beyond his present deal expiring in June 2020.
