Manchester United are reportedly looking at the possibility of re-signing Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion during this summer’s transfer window.
The Northern Irishman has transformed into a top defender during his three-year spell with the Baggies but he has been linked with a possible exit at the end of the campaign.
According to The Sun, the centre-back would be available for a relegation release clause of just £3m once the Baggies’ inevitable drop from the Premier League is confirmed.
As such, manager Jose Mourinho is keeping a close eye on the developments and he could make an approach to sign the former United graduate on a cut-price agreement.
United have possessed the second-best defence in the Premier League this season but the Portuguese is still keen on bolstering the ranks with an additional centre-back.
Evans has undoubtedly gained valuable experience during his time in west Midlands and he could seamlessly integrate into the squad, having learned his trade from the youth system.
Manchester United are at Old Trafford this weekend for a league meeting against Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal. Mourinho’s team picked up a hard-fought 3-1 win in the reverse fixture in December.
