Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on pursuing a young box-to-box midfielder during this summer’s transfer window.
The Red Devils have already reinforced their midfield with the arrival of Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk but there is expected to be further movement in the centre of the park with Marouane Fellaini looking certain to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer.
According to The Manchester Evening News, Mourinho is keen on recruiting another creative midfielder, who could potentially provide back-up to the starting lineup.
It is added that Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic had been the club’s leading target but his £100m plus asking price has urged them to switch attention to AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini instead.
The Italy international has been lauded in the Serie A for his impressive workrate and good control over his passing and these attributes appear to have impressed Mourinho, who is keen on adding more depth at the heart of the midfield.
Aside from Pellegrini, the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Tanguy Ndombele and Aleksandr Golovin have been linked with United with the latter building a good reputation for himself with his World Cup showing for Russia.
