Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen these two positions before deadline

Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho has highlighted the need for a new central defender and wideman before the transfer window shut on August 9.

Earlier in June, United secured deals for Fred and Diogo Dalot but there has since not been much activity with only goalkeeper Lee Grant brought into the squad to allow Joel Pereira head on loan.

As such, the club’s supporters have expressed their dismay over the situation and Mourinho, speaking after the goalless draw against San Jose Earthquakes, was far from optimistic regarding any new arrivals.

According to M.E.N, Mourinho had urged Ed Woodward to pursue two more players who can bolster the centre-defensive and forward positions respectively before the transfer deadline.

Tottenham Hotspur ace Toby Alderweireld has been the prime target to strengthen United’s defence this summer but so far, this has been no breakthrough with Spurs’ reluctant to lower their £75m asking price.

On the other hand, both Willian and Gareth Bale have been linked with potential moves to Old Trafford with Mourinho seeking to strengthen the right-wing position but neither player appears close to joining the club.

Bale appears to have decided to stay put with Real Madrid after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit while Willian is said to fancy a move to Barcelona despite his close relationship with ex-Blues boss Mourinho.
