According to reports carried out by the Daily Mail, the relationship between Jose Mourinho and Ander Herrera has deteriorated in recent months.

Herrera arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2014, during a time when Manchester United were going through a very tough phase and despite the difficult circumstances, the midfielder managed to deliver top notch performances consistently.

The Spanish international was particularly impressive last term in helping the Red Devils claim the EFL Cup as well as the Europa League titles and in the process was voted Manchester United’s player of the season.

It looked like Herrera would well go on to become United captain during the current campaign, especially following the departure of Wayne Rooney but as it has turned out, the 28-year-old has struggled for regular minutes on the pitch so far.

Due to the arrival of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, Herrera has seen his first team opportunities dwindle this season and now according to reports from the Daily Mail, the ex-Athletic Bilbao man’s relationship with Jose Mourinho has been strained.

It has been claimed that Mourinho was angered by Herrera’s decision to invite a friend with close links to Celta Vigo to the Carrington facilities shortly before United played the Spanish club in the semi-final of the Europa League last season and this has led to the deterioration in the relationship between the two.

An insider told the Daily Mail regarding the issue, “We used to joke that he was Jose’s golden boy, and they were always chatting about the game. But the dynamic has changed since the end of last season. It’s not the same.”

With Paul Pogba currently out injured, Herrera is likely to earn a place in the starting lineup for United during the upcoming weeks and the midfielder will hope to get on the good side of Mourinho once again by putting in good performances on the pitch.
