Manchester United are at the Wembley Stadium for Wednesday night’s Premier League outing versus Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils have failed to win any of their previous five matches at Spurs’ homeground, and they will seek to change their fortunes at the national stadium, where Spurs have suffered the odd hiccup in the Premier League.
Strongest Tottenham XI to face Manchester United:
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Lineup:
Hugo Lloris is expected to return to the starting lineup after being rested for the FA Cup draw at Newport. The France international has kept nine clean sheets in 22 Premier League appearances this term.
In defence, Spurs could go with the convention four-at-the-back in order to push Eric Dier into the midfield. In this case, Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies are likely candidates to feature in the full-back positions with Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen occupying the central defensive roles.
Mousa Dembele has of late been consistent in Spurs’ midfield, and the Belgian should be the preferred pick to partner Eric Dier at the heart of the midfield, thus leaving the likes of Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko on the bench.
Further forward, Christian Eriksen is likely to return to the attack after recovering from illness, whilst Dele Alli and Heung-min Son should also keep their places behind Harry Kane, who is certain to lead the line.
