Key update to Manchester United’s £36million bid for 25-year-old

According to reports from ESPN, Barcelona are confident of keeping hold of Sergi Roberto despite a bid from Manchester United.

Manchester United are currently in the hunt for a new right-back to provide competition to Antonio Valencia and the likes of Serge Aurier and Sergi Roberto have strongly been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent times.

With Aurier currently banned from entering the United Kingdom though, United were said to have fully focused their attention towards signing Roberto and Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo had gone as far as claiming that the Red Devils had made a bid of around £36million for the 25-year-old, which would activate his release clause at Barcelona.

Now in an update to the story, ESPN have gone to reveal that despite the offer on the table from United, Barcelona do not fear losing Roberto and are confident that the player does not want to leave Nou Camp either.

The report adds that as an insurance policy, Barcelona will look to offer Roberto a brand new deal which will raise the current £36million release clause on his contract to a higher amount and in turn, make him an unattainable target for United.
