Manchester United edged Tottenham Hotspur in a closely fought encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. The game appeared to be heading for a draw but Anthony Martial popped up with a brilliant finish in the 81st minute to seal a 1-0 triumph for the hosts.
Chances were rare for United for large parts of the game, but Ashley Young, in particular, stood out in the left wing-back position, where he coped brilliantly in the defence as well as providing an outlet in the attack.
Here are the best tweets over Young’s performance….
Don't think I've seen Ashley Young as active as this since 2012!#MUNTOT

Ashley Young head and shoulders the best on the park today.
But it won’t shut his haters up.

Another dependable display from Ashley Young. Deserves to be recognised as United's first choice left-back. #mufc

Ashley Young, written off by so many, yet continues to prove us wrong every time. He is one man who is 'not what he eats' 😉

United had struggled to find creativity with the likes of Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian earlier in the campaign, but Young appears to have emerged as the perfect fit on the left side of the defence.
Mourinho’s side were criticised for an ultra-defensive approach in the 0-0 draw versus Liverpool earlier this month, but they came up with a much better performance against Spurs, where the likes of Lukaku and Rashford had more of the ball.
Manchester United did not have the best of games in terms of the overall performance, and they found the space behind the Spurs’ ranks to secure what could be a key win in the Premier League title race.
