‘With Lindelof flopping’, Mourinho wants to sign defender available for £60million




According to reports from the Daily Express, Manchester United are plotting a move to sign Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez.

Manchester United bolstered their backline with the signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica for around £30million during the summer and it was expected that the Swede would provide tough competition for the likes of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

As it has turned out though, Lindelof has looked completely out of the his depth at United so far and although it is still early days, the towering defender has a lot of improving to do in order to be able to succeed at Old Trafford.

With Lindelof struggling at the moment, claims are being made that manager Jose Mourinho is already looking at other defenders to potentially improve his squad and now according to reports from the Daily Express, it is being claimed that the Red Devils are currently considering a swoop for Jose Gimenez.

Gimenez is considered as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe after impressing with Atletico Madrid in recent seasons and as a result, a host of top clubs have been monitoring the progress of the 22-year-old.

Mourinho is also believed to be a keen admirer of Gimenez’s abilities and it has been claimed that the Portuguese manager is open to activating the Uruguayan international’s release clause of around £60million to lure him away from Atletico next summer.
