Lindelof and Martial start, 4-2-3-1: Alternative Manchester United XI to face Huddersfield Town

Manchester United take on Premier League newcomers Huddersfield Town from the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils are presently on 20 points for the campaign, and they trail leaders and cross-city rivals Manchester City by just two points. Jose Mourinho’s men have won two of their four outings on the road this term, and the gaffer will no doubt want a comprehensive win over a relatively weaker opposition.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Lineup:

Spain international David de Gea has not missed a single Premier League game this term, and he is certain to start between the sticks. Antonio Valencia has been the standing skipper for United of late, and he is pretty much assured of his right-back spot. At left-back, Ashley Young could get the nod following a much-needed rest in midweek. Phil Jones remains a potential injury doubt versus Huddersfield, and Mourinho could opt to give Victor Lindelof his maiden league start. The Swede will most probably partner Chris Smalling in central defence – with the pair having formed an impressive bond in the League Cup and Champions League games.

The central midfield may not see any changes with Ander Herrera continuing his role alongside Nemanja Matic. Marouane Fellaini is still a couple of weeks away from first-team action whilst there is no timeline over Paul Pogba’s recovery from a hamstring problem.

Anthony Martial did not make the best use of his league start against Liverpool, and Mourinho could be tempted to prolong with the Frenchman on the left wing, having previously dominated against a weaker Burton Albion outfit. Other than that, things could remain with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata featuring in the support striker and right wing role respectively whilst Romelu Lukaku will lead the line for the ninth game on the trot.
