Liverpool boss Klopp gives Manchester United a ‘backhanded compliment’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that even Barcelona would struggle to breakdown Manchester United’s backline.

There was a lot of hype ahead of Manchester United’s visit to Anfield to square against Liverpool on Saturday but rather than the match being a memorable spectacle, it ended in a drab 0-0 draw.

The main reason behind the match being a boring affair was due to Manchester United’s extremely defensive approach and following the game, many have blasted the Red Devils’ manager Jose Mourinho for turning the game into a non-event.

While Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was also not left impressed with the manner at which United set out on the day, the German did go on to reluctantly praise the Red Devils’ strong organization at the back before stating that even Barcelona will struggle to breakdown the Premier League giants.

Klopp said during a post-match news conference, “You cannot expect that we create 20 chances against Manchester United. It’s simply not possible. Barcelona, on their best day would not do it.

“We will see – United will not lose a lot of games in this season. If people think we should have done more offensively, that takes too long to explain football, to start at that point. I cannot think about this.

“Expectations, I can deal with this. We have the biggest expectations. The season is not over. The main thing you have to do in a season is to develop and to perform. That’s what we’ve done and so far we did not get enough for it.

“You can blame us because we are not responsible for taking the chances. But we created chances again and in each game we could have won – even against Man City [a game Liverpool lost 5-0], I know it sounds crazy.”
