Liverpool legend says Man Utd star ‘will score goals’ on this position

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has stated that Marouane Fellaini is most effective when he is playing as a forward rather than a midfielder.

Marouane Fellaini has divided the opinions of the Manchester United fans since his move to Old Trafford from Everton back in the summer of 2013 but there is no doubting the fact that manager Jose Mourinho considers the Belgian international a key player of his squad.

As a measure of his impact under Mourinho, Fellaini recently came off the bench for Paul Pogba during Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Basel on Tuesday night and the midfielder made a huge impact by scoring as well as earning the man-of-the-match award following an impressive display.

Steven Gerrard was covering United’s game against Basel and despite Fellaini’s strong performance; the Liverpool legend has urged Mourinho to use the towering central midfielder as a forward rather than at the middle of the park in order to get the best out of him.

The former Liverpool captain told BT Sport, “In the middle of the pitch, he never used to hurt you or harm you; you’d play against him all day. You used to like playing around him, he didn’t really bother you.

“But for Everton as a forward, he’s back into you, people could run off and he’d be a right handful. For United, if people get quality deliveries into the box he’ll score you goals.”
