If the latest updates in Portugal are anything to go by then Liverpool are prepared to blow Man Utd out of water to sign Portuguese international, Joao Neves.
The Red Devils have been after the Benfica star for a long time and last week, they even moved in with an offer of £51million. However, it was rejected.
Transfer: Man Utd ready to offer £33.8m star to sign £12.7m winger
Now, as per a story published by Correio da Manha (via Paisley Gates), Liverpool have stepped up the efforts secure the signing of Neves, who is a wanted boy in the market.
According to the report, in the coming days, the Merseysiders will come forward with an offer to ‘convince’ Benfica and the midfielder to complete the transfer.
The Liga Nos giants demand activation of £101million release clause to sell the midfielder this summer.
However, it has been reported earlier, that a bid of at least worth £84million (100 million euros) would be considered by the Estadio da Luz outfit.
Man Utd need to offload veteran defensive midfielder, Casemiro, whose best days are long gone. To replace him, Joao Neves is targeted.
On the other hand, the Anfield side are yet to properly replace Fabinho and Endo seemed like a makeshift signing last term.
It will be fair to say that Liverpool have an edge over Man Utd in the race to lure Neves as they can offer him Champions League football next season.
However, the pull of the Merseysiders would not be sky high now that Jurgen Klopp is not in charge. Not many would know Arne Slot in Portugal.
