LOAN ROUNDUP: Janko Scores Screamer and Cleverley Finally Wins

Welcome to another edition of the weekly loan round up, analysing the performances of Manchester United’s loanees and looking at their development at their respective clubs.

Starting off this week is the Real Madrid duo of Javier Hernandez and Guillermo Varela. Whilst Chicharito continues to endure a drought of action at the Bernabeu, Varela is thriving under Zidane’s Castilla team. Despite the youngsters drawing 1-1 at Amorebieta at the weekend, they remain top of Segunda B on goal difference, with just 2 points separating the top 6.

Moving from Spain into Portugal, and Nani and his Sporting Lisbon side required a last minute equaliser to draw away to Beleneses. More action for the winger comes on Thursday night, as he is in Europa League action away at Wolfsburg.

Over to England and midfielder Ben Pearson again tasted a heavy defeat with Barnsley, as they were thumped 5-1 away to Crawley. Will Keane also suffered a frustrating afternoon, as he failed to provide a breakthrough, as Sheffield Wednesday were held 0-0 against Brighton.

One midfielder who did experience a highly entertaining 90 minutes was Joe Rothwell, who watched from the bench as Blackpool and Nottingham Forest played out an 8 goal 4-4 thriller. After scoring a screamer of a goal mid-week in the 3-1 win against Fulham, Saidy Janko was again involved for Bolton, but Troy Deeney last minute winner as they lost 4-3 to Watford.

Finally, we come to those who were involved in the FA Cup 5th round, with the “magic of the cup” again causing upsets. Jesse Lingard was involved for Derby County, his shot deflecting in off Darren Bent before a late Yakubu winner clinched a 2-1 win for Reading, proving that famous phrase, “Feed the Yak and he will score” true.

The FA Cup also provided a rare victory for Tom Cleverley’s Aston Villa. With new manager Tim Sherwood allegedly providing an inspirational team talk at half time to ensure they emerged 2-1 victors against Leicester City. One player who won’t feature this week is Sam Johnstone, as Preston face his parent club as Manchester United head to Deepdale on Monday night.

That’s it for this week’s round up, but with European action returning, there is plenty to contemplate for next week’s edition.
