Manchester United fans were critical over the performance of Eric Bailly during Sunday’s surprise 3-2 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion.
Jose Mourinho’s men were initially expected to dominate the proceedings against a Brighton side, who were outclassed by Watford in their curtain raiser but unfortunately, things did not turn the same way.
Chances were few and far between for both clubs during the game but Brighton made the most of their opportunities to score thrice much to the frustration of the United faithful.
Shortly after the game, United supporters were venting their anger at the poor performance of Bailly, who conceded a blatant penalty which increased Brighton’s advantage before the half time break.
So many mistakes… Bailly epitomised everything United are under Mourinho – one week superb, next week he looks like a lost child. #MUFC #BHAMUN

This is one of the most pathetic performances by a Manchester United side I have watched. Bailly looks like he hasn’t played football in his life, Pogba taking ages to pass and players sleepwalking. This is disgusting. ?

I like Bailly. But he’s having a horrible, horrible game today.

Bailly testing the hearts of every ManUtd fan

I feel like Bailly has become so well known for his physicality/funny side that many have grown blind to the fact that, technically, he is awful: timing, positioning, passing, tracking all really poor.

With United not investing in a new centre-back this summer, it was the perfect chance for Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof to prove their credentials, given they were both under Mourinho’s tutelage.
However, their showing against Brighton has raised plenty of question marks ahead of the Spurs game and Mourinho may be tempted to consider a change for the visit of Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are the potential options waiting on the wings and the onus is on the aforementioned duo to come up with a better showing next weekend, if they manage to retain their positions.
