News that Rafael Da Silva has been told he’s surplus to requirements at Old Trafford will have disappointed many United fans as despite the Brazilians lack of first team action last season he’s still popular among many supporters. It’s not hard to see why the fans love Rafael, unlike Tony Valencia, he doesn’t play the game as though he’s got a gun pointed at his head forcing him to take to the field. Rafael may be injury prone but when he’s fit his passion, skill and effort make him one of the best right back’s in the Premier League, if not Europe and it’s worth remembering how big a part he played in Sir Alex’s final campaign.
From Van Gaal’s point of view, Rafael just cannot seem to be relied upon to steer clear of injury for longer than a few months and while it’s annoying that the far less talented Valencia is still preferred, it’s understandable – sort of.
Rafael has no shortage of suitors and with Van Gaal wanting his business done as soon as possible we can expect to see Fabio’s brother depart very soon.
He’ll be missed….
