Manchester United returned to winning ways after they secured a 2-0 triumph over Swansea City in the League Cup fourth-round tie on Tuesday night. Jesse Lingard was responsible for both goals for United after he impressed in the number 10 position where he has barely featured under Jose Mourinho.
Playing behind Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, the Englishman produced his best performance of the campaign as he found the scoresheet in either half against the Swans. The club graduate ghosted through space in the frontline to score the opener and he capped things off with a sublime header early in the second period.
Lingard has not quite found a position under the gaffer this season, but he looks an ideal player to provide competition to Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the support striker role. The Armenia international has, however, produced the goods over an extended period, and Lingard will have to perform at a similar level – when offered the chance in order to make himself a Premier League regular.
Here are the best tweets over Lingard’s performance….
Tbf if Rashford or Martial had bagged those 2 goals that Lingard has everyone would be creaming. League Cup or not.

Think it’s harsh some of the criticism Jesse Lingard receives. He might not be a luxury first-team starter, but has a good use in the squad.

Very nicely worked goal! Brilliant touch from Rashford and surprisingly clinical from Lingard. ?

Jesse Lingard loves the League Cup. Needs to start translating this type of form for when he plays in the Premier League.
