19-year-old Luke Shaw, who joined United from Southampton for about £27m earlier this summer, has made just three Premier League starts after missing the start of the season through injury and admits that he has been far from his best since a big-money summer switch.
“They haven’t seen the best of me yet,” said Shaw. “I know I haven’t been up to my full potential and I think maybe people can see that at the moment. I am trying hard and it’s about getting used to everything.”
“I wouldn’t say I’ve been horrendous but I know I can do much better, and I need to do better.
“I’ve come to Manchester United and I know what they need. I’ve been working hard and the performances will come.”
Luke Shaw, who has taken a lead role in the Man Utd side following the departure of Patrice Evra, is seen to be likely to be a starter for United’s challenge against league leaders Chelsea, who are currently unbeaten.
“It’s a massive test, it’s never easy. We’re going to work hard this week and will be ready for the challenge on Sunday.”
