Manchester United supporters were delighted with the impact of Nemanja Matic, who managed to find the scoresheet for the second time in the month. The Serbia international put in a real shift at the heart of the United midfield, and he contributed a goal and assist during the 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Brighton on Saturday.
Matic, 29, has been one of United most-consistent performers this season, but of late, he has also been contributing towards the club’s scoresheet with valuable goals including a late winner against Palace. Following the Sevilla defeat, the team had to come up with a strong showing against Brighton, and though they struggled to create many clear-cut chances, they managed to pull through with a 2-0 triumph.
United opened the scoring after a delightful cross from Matic which Lukaku dually converted into a goal. After the break, the match was more evenly contested with Brighton having a real-go at the hosts, but the game was eventually put to bed by Matic himself, who scored with a header at the far-post following a splendid free-kick from Ashley Young.
What a night of football heritage. Nemanja Matić a goal and an assist. Another Romelu Lukaku goal. Manchester United into the semi finals. A drab performance, but one step closer.

Matic what a player. Our main man. Been locking it down for us all season unlike an £89m princess.

What a victory! ?
Fantastic display by Matic. Both defensively & offensively. Lukaku was class. Bailly solid. Romero brilliant. Young decent! ?

Matic has been Mourinho’s go-to man in the centre of the park this term, and this has been visualised by him being ever-present through the club’s Premier League campaign. The Serbian has had a couple of difficult games in the United shirt, but his response thereafter has been brilliant regardless of the constant swapping of midfield partners alongside him.
