According to The Sun, Manchester United could lose Ander Herrera this summer or in 2019 as the 28-year-old is ‘frustrated at Old Trafford’. His deal with United has just 12 months to run, but there’s been no talks with the club over an extension.
Herrera has lost his starting place in the midfielder under Jose Mourinho and wants assurances about his future in Manchester. The Spaniard joined United from Athletic Bilbao in 2014 and has gone on to make 161 appearances in all competitions.
He fell down the pecking order to Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic last season, however, making just 13 Premier League starts for the Red Devils and could consider a move from Old Trafford if Mourinho can’t guarantee him more playing time in 2018/19.
United will have to act soon as Herrera’s contract will expire in 2019. Either they cash in this summer or they risk losing him for free in 12 months. With Fred joining the club from Shakhtar Donetsk, Herrera’s chances of playing time have diminished which may have made up his mind.
The Sun say he’ll be able to speak to foreign clubs in January and sign a pre-contract deal six months before his contract expires.
