According to Sport, Manchester United have been a major blow as Barcelona have agreed a £30.8m deal with Sevilla for Clement Lenglet. The Catalans have agreed to meet his release clause and will officially bring him to the Camp Nou on July 1. The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Old Trafford, but he’s reported to have told friends and family that he’ll be playing for Barca.
Lenglet made 73 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla since joining from AS Nancy in January 2017. He was a regular in the starting lineup immediately after his arrival at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, missing only five Liga games in 2016/17 and three in 2017/18. The French u21 international failed to make the 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but he could make his senior international debut next season.
United manager Jose Mourinho was in the market for a centre-back as Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo could be on their way out this summer after spending last season on the periphery and having only 12 months left on their respectively deals. Victor Lindelof has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford just a year after joining from Benfica too.
But it appears Barcelona have won the race for his signature, forcing United to turn their attentions elsewhere.
