Napoli have reportedly joined Juventus in the race to sign Matteo Darmian from Manchester United this summer. The Italy international has not hidden his desire to acquire more gametime next season and this could push him through the exit door.
As such, Juventus have been deemed favourites to secure his services over the past month but according to Gianluca di Marzio, Napoli are prepared to make an approach of their own for Darmian.
Faouzi Ghoulam has been Napoli’s first-choice left-back over the past few seasons but the Algerian did not make much of an impression last term after he struggled to overcome a fracture to his kneecap.
The 27-year-old has since suffered a recurrence of the same problem and there are now claims that the defender won’t be fit in time for the start of the new league campaign.
Darmian has openly suggested that he would fancy a return to the Serie A ahead of next season and his exit should be sanctioned in the next few weeks, unless Jose Mourinho has different plans in mind.
Both Darmian and Daley Blind have been pictured reporting for first-team training despite being tipped to leave United much earlier in the summer and keeping them does not make sense with their contracts expiring in 12 months’ time.
