Manchester United are in search of a top quality midfielder and Declan Rice has been linked for some time. However a former Old Trafford star in the form of Andy Cole has other ideas.
The Red Devils legend claims that instead of splashing the cash on luring the West Ham United play breaker, it is better to break the bank for Dortmund star, Jude Bellingham.
Transfer: Man Utd could offer £29million contract – £50million bid made for signing
Cole told Sky Sports (via The Express):
“£150m for a holding midfield player? That’s a lot of money. Not sure how many goals he’s going to get you from that position. We were just talking, if the opportunity comes about and you have Rice come available in the summer and you had Bellingham come available in the summer, who would you spend your £150m on? Personally, I would go with Bellingham.”
“He’s 18 years of age and he goes that way, that way [defending and attacking], he creates chances, he scores goals. For such a young man, his ability is absolutely frightening.”
Cole is absolutely right, Bellingham is a complete midfielder who has already proved to be brilliant in No.6, No.8 and No.10 roles for Borussia Dortmund.
Man Utd need a solid play breaker and a creative midfielder and in such a scenario, the ex Birmingham City starlet would be the ideal signing.
In the current campaign, the teenage sensation has scored 6 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions for the German Bundesliga side.
The youngster still has over three years left on his contract and reports in Germany (Bild) have indicated that BvB would only allow their asset to leave if a fee of £83.5million (100 million euros) is met.
In your view, who should Man Utd sign to strengthen their midfield this summer?
