Man United backed to secure signing of £10.4million-a-year striker

Kane and Son Spurs

Donny van de Beek is Solskjaer’s first signing to improve Man Utd’s midfield department. Now, the Norwegian manager needs to strengthen the offense.

The Red Devils have been backed to secure signing of a top quality striker by former Old Trafford coach Rene Meulensteen.

Transfer: Man United would move to agree signing of £290,000-a-week midfielder if this happens

The 56-year-old believes that if Man United are able to lure Harry Kane from Tottenham this summer, they will compete for the Premier League title next season.

Meulensteen told talkSPORT:

“I think we are maybe another good signing away; I keep saying they should bring in a really top, top striker.”

“I think, for instance, if you were able to get Kane – I don’t think they would be able to get him – I would say yes, they will compete for the title next year.”

Solskjaer opted to sell an out and out striker like Lukaku last summer and since then, he has mainly utilized Anthony Martial, a natural wide attacking player, in the center forward’s role.

The Belgian international banged 23 goals in 33 Serie A starts for Inter Milan, on the other hand, the French star scored 17 goals in 31 PL starts for the Red Devils.

We need someone who will be able to score at least 20+ goals in the league to have a strong chance of competing for the title. The last player to achieve that feat for United is Robin van Persie (2012-13).

Harry Kane is one of the most consistent goal scorers in the Premier League. The 27-year-old has won the PL Golden Boot on two occasions.

The Tottenham superstar is the captain of the England national team and has got a brilliant record for the Three Lions. He won the Golden Boot at the 2018 WC and was also the leading goalscorer in the Euro qualification campaign.

The 27-year-old striker earns around £10.4million-a-year (The Sun) and his current contract with Spurs will expire in 2024. So, in all fairness, his market value is going to be extremely high and Mourinho would surely not want to lose his main forward to his former side.

Back in April, The Mail reported that the north Londoners value their prized asset at £200million.

  1. Man Utd mustn’t get Kane to win titles. Liverpool did not win titles with Kane ,same to Manchester City. Why has Spurs not win titles with Kane since. Forget Kane ,there are cheaper and reliable options there.
