Manchester United have been linked with Raul Jimenez for some time and lately, they have been backed to lure the Wolves forward by former Chelsea player Jason Cundy.
The 29-year-old striker is not going to come for cheap. A week back, Duncan Castles (Transfer Window Podcast) revealed that the Molineux outfit want 100 million euros (£90million) from the sale of their center forward.
Cundy thinks that Man United have not replaced Romelu Lukaku as yet and they must sign a proven quality striker in the summer transfer window (talkSPORT):
“You’ve not replaced Lukaku. You’ve not, and I think you’ve got to address that,”
“Your goals are coming from all over the pitch, which is obviously a good thing, but you need a striker. Martial does the job but I don’t know whether I can see him scoring 20 goals a season.”
“The boy at Wolves, Jimenez – and Wolves fans are going to hate me right now – but United would be a totally different machine, a totally different machine with him up front.”
The 50-year-old is right about a few things. United have not replaced Lukaku since he was sold to Inter last summer. Ighalo is a veteran and only a short term fix.
On the other hand, Martial is not and out and out forward. The French international has so far managed to score 19 goals (all competitions) this term and would probably get to 20 with ease in the remaining games.
However, Solskjaer needs a striker, who would be able to score at least 20 league goals to have a strong chance of wining the PL. At Old Trafford, the last man to achieve that feat is now retired i.e. Robin van Persie.
Jimenez has scored 24 goals in all competitions so far this season and he has provided 10 assists as well. The Mexican star is a top natural No.9 but in all fairness, £90million is an unrealistic value for someone who will turn 30 in less than 12 months.
In your view, who should Ole sign to strengthen his strike-force in the summer transfer window.
