Manchester United, Chelsea, and Inter were all linked with the Belgium international Radja Nainggolan this summer, but it seems that the midfielder will stay at Roma, after all.
The Red Devils were ready to pay £40 for Nainggolan’s services, but Roma’s sporting director Monchi stated that the Italian giants are done selling key players after Mohamed Salah’s, Leandro Paredes’, and Antonio Rudiger’s departures. Jose Mourinho and United now have to turn to other targets as they are looking to bring in more reinforcements before the start of the season on August 11.
Manchester already bought Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku, but the hopes of bringing another Belgian to Old Trafford are now virtually dead, so now Mourinho can concentrate on Eric Dier, with whom he was linked in the past few days.
Radja Nainggolan enjoyed the best season of his career last year after he recorded 14 goals and seven assists, emerging as an essential figure at Stadio Olimpico alongside Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah. However, Salah left for Liverpool, and the fans voiced their displeasure about it, so Roma is not in a position to sell another star.
The 29-year-old midfielder is not only an integral part of Roma’s offense, but he is also known for his defensive duties, making him a world-class box-to-box midfielder. Although United already have these type of players at Old Trafford, Naiggolan would present quite an upgrade to the middle of the park. But, despite the reports that Mourinho spoke with Radja about the potential transfer a couple of weeks ago and offered a £6.6 million per year contract, Roma is not interested in selling.
