Newcastle Is Ready To Sign Man United £70,000-A-Week Defender: Reports

Newcastle is ready to sign Manchester United defender Luke Shaw on loan during the January transfer window. The England international has been sparingly used by Jose Mourinho this term, with just two cameo appearances in the League Cup.

According to The Mirror, Jose Mourinho would permit the temporary exit of Luke Shaw in order to offer the Englishman with regular gametime in the second half of the season. The report adds that Newcastle United are the leading candidates for his services with Rafa Benitez wanting a top-class recruit on the left side of the defence.

£70,000-a-week defender is currently behind Ashley Young, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian in the pecking order for the left-back spot, and a move elsewhere could encourage his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Newcastle are, however, not the sole club interested in Shaw with former club Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, manager by ex-Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino also reported to be monitoring his situation at Old Trafford.

Mourinho is expected to rotate his left-back options during the congested festive schedule, but Shaw’s chances of making a Premier League start look bleak with Marcos Rojo, having also recently returned to the first-team squad after a long knee injury lay-off.
