Manchester United are interested in bringing Liverpool’s summer target Naby Keita, who could cost around £65 million, but his club RB Leipzig are playing hardball on the move and are reluctant to sell.
Liverpool are trying to seal the deal for weeks now, and although Keita is open to moving to Anfield, Leipzig insists that the Guinean is not for sale. On the other hand, Jose Mourinho is still searching for a midfielder, and he wasn’t successful in pursuit of Nemanja Matic, Eric Dier, and Radja Nainggolan so far, so he could hijack Liverpool move for the 22-year-old.
The Reds’ initial bid of £57 million was rejected by Leipzig, and Jurgen Klopp is expected to increase it up to £65 million, but the Bundesliga vice-champions could even ask for £80 million. Liverpool lost a few transfer targets to rival clubs in recent history and United already stole Lukaku under Chelsea’s nose in this transfer window so anything could happen in the next couple of weeks.
Naby Keita had a fantastic season last year as he recorded eight goals and eight assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances for RB Leipzig, his first season after joining from RB Salzburg. During his two-year stay at Salzburg, Keita scored 20 goals and added 11 assists in 80 matches.
