Manchester United are being associated with moves for  Bayern Munich duo Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara before the transfer window comes to a close next month.

Both players are said to have expressed an interest in leaving the Allianz Arena this summer and United appear to have been associated owing to their former links with the pair. Lewandowski joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 and has gone on to score more than 150 goals in over 195 games in all competitions

According to The Independent, United are keen to jumpstart the transfer business after a frustrating few weeks and Thiago and Lewandowski have been highlighted as the prime options to bolster the squad.

Despite the speculation, the midfield and forward positions don’t seem a priority for the remaining weeks and it would come as a surprise, if one of the above-mentioned players arrive at Old Trafford.

The midfield department has already been strengthened with the arrival of Fred and United have since taken the opportunity of extending Marouane Fellaini’s contract by a couple of years.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has previously highlighted that the club would not strengthen the attack front during the summer and recruiting Lewandowski does not make sense, as he would command a starting role ahead of Romelu Lukaku.

In this case, the club could be better off pursuing a left-back before the transfer deadline, though they are yet to find the breakthrough with any of their targets. Alex Sandro of Juventus has regularly been linked this summer but a deal is far from being certain.
