Manchester United are interested in Paris Saint-Germain’s defender Serge Aurier and have contacted the French vice-champions over a potential move.
The Red Devils could sign the 24-year-old for the sum of between £17million and £22million, and the Saints could sell him, but they need to find a replacement first. However, United are not the only one interested in Aurier as Juventus and Inter are also monitoring the situation with the full-back.
The Ivorian is a top player and would definitely be a first choice right-back, considering Matteo Darmian’s unimpressive last season and the fact that Antonio Valencia is not a defender. Still, there are other clubs in the mix as well, and United will need to act quickly if they want to get their man. In case Manchester buys Aurier, Darmian’s career at Old Trafford could be over as Inter are on the trail of the 27-year-old Italian.
Dani Alves makes his move from Juventus to PSG, so that means Man United will have a solid chance of getting Aurier but will face a stiff competition from the Italian champions. Aurier didn’t enjoy the best time last term as he appeared in only 22 league matches and is hoping for a move away from Parc des Princes in order to revive his career.
Aurier began his career at Lens in 2009 and played 55 games before he joined Toulouse in 2011. He represented Toulouse on 80 occasions and recorded eight goals and 12 assists, and then moved to PSG in 2014. Serge scored five goals and added 15 assists (five last season) in 81 games for the Parisians. He also bagged a goal in 39 matches for Ivory Coast.
Serge Aurier is a powerful right-back who can be quite dangerous in attack while he is also reliable at the back. Although he had problems because of his temperament when allegedly assaulted a police officer, he is undoubtedly a high-quality player.
