Man United Plan move for La Liga defender to replace Phil Jones

Manchester United could reportedly revive their long-term interest in Argentine defender Ezequeil Garay. The 30-year-old is currently plying his trade for Valencia for whom he was one of the standout performers during the previous season.

Spanish outlet Super Deporte claims that Jose Mourinho could move in for the Argentine centre-back this summer as he is looking to replace Phil Jones in his ranks. Garay impressed during his first season with Los Che scoring four goals in 26 appearances, and his attribute of being a ball-playing defender appears to have reignited United’s interest.

Both Jones and Eric Bailly have formed a brilliant partnership since the start of the season, and it would come as a huge surprise if Mourinho is looking for a new defender with the likes of Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling in reserve. Marcos Rojo has also returned to first-team training following his long injury layoff, and he could slot into the heart of the defence where he was impressive during the first half of last season.

United scouts had kept a close watch on Garay during Valencia’s 1-0 victory over Las Palmas last weekend, and it will be interesting to see how this story unfolds – considering the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and Benfica were also in attendance at Mestalla.
