Frenkie de Jong will be able to play Champions League football if he opts to stay at Barcelona. On the other hand, he will not be taking part in the continent’s premier competition if he moves to Manchester United.
The Red Devils have been a club in decline since Ferguson decided to retire in 2013. Therefore, perhaps the only attraction at Old Trafford for De Jong is the soon-to-be Man United boss, Erik ten Hag.
According to a report covered by Sport today (news image provided below), Man United are preparing an offer worth 80 million euros (£67.9million) to sign the 25-year-old central midfielder this summer.
The Catalan media outlet claim that Barcelona are willing to listen to offers but would not let the player leave for less than 90-100 million euros.
The famous Spanish news source have further stated that Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, could consider making a move to sign De Jong, who is admired by Julian Nagelsmann.
Old Trafford legend, Rio Ferdinand, thinks that the Red Devils are looking for players who can control the play in the center of the park and the Netherlands star would be a top signing. The 43-year-old said (FIVE).
“They’re saying Frenkie de Jong could be the first player to come in under Erik ten Hag, and I would be saying: ‘Yes, great signing‘.“
“He’s not huge in terms of frame but he is quick with the ball, really good dribbler, can get out of tight situations, makes good decisions, good passer, his balance and dribbling ability are really good.”
