Manchester United have made quite a few questionable transfer decisions in recent history but none is more striking to the eye than the amount they paid to bring Antony from Ajax.
Even back then, despite his supposed talent, it seemed like a money laundering scheme when United splashed £81.3m.
News – Report – Man United hold talks to sign manager to replace Ten Hag
To say Antony’s time at Old Trafford has been a disaster would be a massive understatement. The Brazilian has to go right up there with Eden Hazard at Real Madrid and Philippe Coutinho at Barcelona as some of the worst big money signings in football history.
It is a massive surprise that Man United have still not shipped out Antony but even the manager who made him a star at Ajax, Erik ten Hag, has stopped trusting him and hardly gives him game time so far this season.
He managed one goal in 29 league appearances last term and this time around, thus far, the 24-year-old has only featured for 27 minutes in the PL.
Now, as per Goal Brasil, the 20-time English champions are finally prepared to secure the exit of Antony and plan to send him out on loan in January. It has been some time coming and the Red Devils need to do something about his situation.
There are a few clubs in Europe who are interested in signing Antony, who earns around £200,000 a week on loan. Even his former club Ajax would consider a return for him on favorable terms and the Brazilian is said to be willing to go back to the Netherlands.
Last summer, Jadon Sancho found himself in a similar situation and made a loan move to Borussia Dortmund. He has an impressive stint with his former club and the Red Devils managed to ship him to Chelsea.
The hope for Man United with Antony would remain the same but it might be even more difficult than the Sancho situation. It remains to be seen how the club handle the South American’s situation and where he ends up next.
