Manchester United are looking at the possibility of offering Luke Shaw in a swap agreement to sign Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti.
Earlier in January, the Red Devils pursued the signature of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in a straight-exchange deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and it appears that Jose Mourinho could get a similar deal over the line during the summer.
According to Don Balon, United are aiming to lure Samuel Umtiti from the Camp Nou, and they are supposedly prepared to Shaw in exchange in order to reduce the overall transfer package.
The £70,000-a-week star is currently fighting for his United future with just 15 months left on his contract, and United are aiming to make most of his situation, with Barcelona said to be considering an approach for his signature.
Should a swap deal not materialise, United may have to trigger Umtiti’s £52m release clause, given Barcelona are unlikely to sell him for anything less during the summer.
Mourinho has already stated his plans of bolstering the midfield and defensive departments in the next transfer window whilst stressing that he is content with the options in the club’s attack front.
