Man United ready to agree £68.6million signing – Deal close

De Jong and De Ligt - Netherlands

The transfer saga surrounding Frenkie de Jong has dragged on for some time and the latest reports are positive for the Manchester United faithful.

According to a story covered by Sport, the Red Devils are very close to agreeing a deal with Barcelona to hire the services of the Dutch midfielder.

Transfer: Man Utd submit bid to sign £111million star – Report

The Spanish media outlet have mentioned that the Old Trafford outfit are ready to reach the figures that the Catalan giants will accept.

It is reported that the fee would be close to £68.6million and will largely improve the financial situation at the Nou Camp. United are confident that the deal will be sealed with the La Liga club in the coming days.

Sport claim that De Jong wants to stay and play in the Champions League next season but even he is beginning to doubt his continuity at Barca, who seem absolutely ready to offload him.

The 25-year-old star won the domestic double with Ajax and helped them reach the last four of the European Cup before opting to join Barcelona in 2019.

In three seasons, he has only managed to win the Copa Del Rey (last year) and must feel that he has unfinished business in Spain. However, the situation is complicated for him because Laporta needs to improve the economic conditions.

A move to Manchester United will reunite De Jong with former boss, Erik Ten Hag, something that he can look forward to. However, he might not be excited about playing on Thursday nights in the Europa League.

We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds and will keep you updated.

  1. Manchester United should be wary of mercenaries with more interest in their own development than that of the club. That said, Ten Haag, if anyone, may well be able to blend player components to produce an effective unit with team spirit. But it won.t happen overnight.
